I've been thinking for a while about the server. At a certain point, level 14, the pve loop stops making sense. Due to the roleplaying xp sources drying up it becomes an exercise of patience and the luck of finding some player invented conflict to sink your teeth into and roleplay out.
Afterall, conflict is the root of any story. And i'm a little bit confused that Cormyr and the Dalelands seems to have both been built to be without serious conflict between players, while having a suite of amazing tools to facilitate it. Scrying, Non Detection, Misdirection, Alignment detection, Alter self. The clues are all there that there was the intent to have some level of conflict between light and dark.
Yet, the underdark is empty. Theres nothing for the paladins to punish. And the reason for this is that there is nothing 'evil' to do.
My suggestion is to create evil dungeons. No not more crypts with liches, let us raid the temples by going up through those locked doors into a 'dungeon' of its members, break in to the back of stores and try to over come noble manor's guards. I understand that this sort of thing takes a lot of work, but its also the sort of inspiring idea that can be exciting enough to grant the energy to do it. And once a high level player can raid the royal castle of Suzail and plunder its vaults. The players of good would finally have something to protect. Investigate.
Such a thing would have a profound effect, peoples deeds would start to matter in their personal lives. There would actually be outlaws. There would be ongoing colour, conflict that drives roleplay to be something beyond people waiting for xp to tick up in a square, hoping for anything to happen, for some entertainment.
And of course, that would still be there, people don't have to engage in defending these places from attack or punishing those that do. But if someone is looking for some in character purpose beyond level 14. Should be pretty fun, don't you think?
This is a pve server, not a pvp server.
Let me underline that. Player character purple dragons who guard most settlements aside from Arabel, no matter their rank, are specifically told not to police other pc's under any circumstance.
And that makes raiding temples a bad idea as no pc can do much with it. Things to investigate are always initiated/overseen by DM's on CD.
