Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Bladesinger Styles
May 15, 2024, 09:28 PM
Quote from: Plot Lost on Apr 28, 2024, 10:54 PMAs said on the other thread, no idea. But, there are combat animations that you can just toggle on, and your character will fight differently... Some of the animations fit some of the things you have listed better than the rest.

Actually, what I speak of is not mechanical/scripted in nature if that makes sense tis basically flavor stuff to allow people to say they were taught this or that and how they move in a rp fashion than a mechanical fashion by choosing the different fighting styles. Like rp wise a person went to the vale of lost voices and was shown a style of bladesong by a Baelnorn who wanted to pass on this knowledge

General Discussion / Forlorn Elves Question
Apr 28, 2024, 02:03 PM
If an Elf is a forlorn elf from what I have read it's an elf that has no connection to their Elven heritage; how does one go from forlorn status to knowing your heritage? is there like a quest that needs to be requested? what is CD stance on such an elf and how do they get brought back into the fold so to speak.

Thanks

Suggestions & Ideas / Bladesinger Styles
Apr 25, 2024, 11:50 AM
I never asked this in forums so I thought I would give it a shot.

back in 2005 I played bladesingers and they used different styles, Styles what the heck are those you ask? they are simply RP related with no scripting involved for the staff or the server in general. I was going to place a list here that I had come across and wrote down long ago. Most styles came from AD&D 2.0 to 3.0 with 3.0 actually having some skills created for them. To be clear I am not asking for server change but can we use styles in our back ground and rping?

Bladesong Fighting Styles

Ahmaquissar Bladesong:

This bladesong style uses very fast strikes that come in from the oddest conceivable angles manageable by the lanky practitioners of this style. The wielder must be a Bladesinger or have the Bladesong proficiency. This fighting style comes from the idea that the user can kill off his enemies before they have a chance to mount a battle strategy. And while his enemy's try to follow his rhythms, he is speeding them on to their own demise at his hands. It is almost forgotten today, even amongst high level and ancient Bladesingers.

Gyrlaszthraen - Swift Strike Hunting Bird.

An elven fighting style that focuses on agility and swift strikes to cripple the enemy An elven fighting style that focuses on agility and swift strikes to cripple the enemy This style is comprised of very fast strikes. This style grants the Bladesinger a bonus to his initiative with his or her chosen weapon. Like the Bladesong style, this style may be purchased twice to gain a to initiative bonus. This proficiency is cumulative with single weapon style.

Ileleste - Falling Rain

An elven fighting style that focuses on covering a wide area and protecting those in it with gentle defensive strikes to cover a friends/comrades defensive openings. The style is deceptive in that those that see it are misled into allowing their own defenses to be breached by the tempo of the style. Has been called one of the stronger group defensive styles.

Evanero Bladesong:

This bladesong style uses the powerful and beautiful strikes seen in the elven Blade Dance to cause vicious wounds. The wielder must be a Bladesinger or have the Bladesinging proficiency. This fighting style comes from a nearly extinct elven family that once patrolled the outskirts of Cormanthyy, before the Standing Stone was erected. It is infrequently seen today, even amongst Bladesingers. (One Baelnorn Bladesinger in Myth Drannor, one Stadius Evanero, is known to possess it; as well as his closest relative Wiquaestreal Evanero, his student and nephew. Masol picked it up from Wiquaestreal recently.)

This style is comprised of gentle, but swift and decisive strikes to the vulnerable areas of the elf's enemies. This style grants the Bladesinger more damage with his or her chosen weapon. Like the Bladesong style.

Lecvero'estrii Bladesong:

This bladesong style uses very slow and rhythm-laden strikes, like the elven Blade Dance in slow motion. The wielder must be a Bladesinger or have the Bladesong proficiency. This fighting style comes from the ideas that the user can slow down the tempo of the battle and make his enemy's follow his rhythms, during which he is now thinking three or more steps ahead of them (in this respect it is like a physical game of chess). It is almost forgotten today, even amongst high level and ancient Bladesingers. This style is comprised of slow and deceptive strikes that also serve to cover his person in a protective sphere of blades.

Staryn's Bladesong:

Started by Jediah Starym, this bladesong style was simple in one thing and served one purpose only, it was also only able to be used with one weapon. The Moonblade. Though the moonblade would only draw blood it deemed worthy, once unsheathed it would permeate the battlefield in what was called in the common tongue, Mortal Maker. It rid the area of metaphysical abilities, including the wielders, making the unnatural, natural, and mortal, making what might be a supernatural fight, completely natural, leaving the combatants with only their wits and prowess with their weapons to fight.

Just going to add some notes here for consideration.

Part One:

The general description of moon elves does describe tendencies, but they are definitely not universal - though you are going to see all of what you said with them a little more than with others. It is actually a big focus of the rivalry between clans of the different elf groups, especially their noble clans.

Still, Evereskan moon elves and some Evermeetian ones would tend as more insular because of the broader culture of their society/ies. So you will need to consider still the region of the moon elf, as that will need taken into account in combination with that general descriptor and what direction your character goes and wishes to go in response to that environment. Moon elves in the Dalelands are definitely going to be varied based on settlements and most of the Northern/Silver Marches ones are probably going to be a little more tolerant, as there are open temples of Eilistraee in proximity to them (though they would still be cautious of drow they do not know - not all are Drizzt Do'Urden).

Part Two:

The Ardeep information checks with the information from Lost Empires of Faerun that there are elves still there, though note they are not a full on civilization like they used to be when they were a vassal realm or a surviving realm of the Crown Wars. Description indicated their presence is few in this material. Elves from Waterdeep go in the forest to tend some important sites.              may be a better judge of what is going on there right now, as I recall they had some Chronicle posts involving plots relevant to the area. Waterdeep is metropolitan so it could as well be that some may assume the elf was not from an elven raised family unless specified otherwise, as to why some might think of forlorn/not raised elven at the start?

I am actually confused on what is being inquired on here, the questions feels a bit awkward.

On Homelands:

While a bit of this is not wrong as of 1372 DR up to now, the date from which we start to deviate from the timeline, I would be cautious about using the FR Wiki as the main source. I would in the future consider checking which source on there match. For instance, Spellplague never happened in this server. So anything related to that or after 1372 DR should not be used in our continuity.

Best wishes,
Arya
Basically I am doing research to get a better handle on how the admins view the lore here on the server compared to other sources a the saying goes when in Rome.

You can post a request in the LETO subforum.  Just specify the character name you wish to be deleted from your vault, as well as your username.  There should be a template in the sub forum to follow.
Thank You

I'm assuming that by Dark Elves you mean Ssri'Tel'Quessir, subrace of elves which became drow during the Dark Disaster.

In CD timeline, drow aren't reverting to the Dark Elf state, since those events were described in the Blackstaff (restoration of Miyeritar) and Ascendancy of the Last novels. Drow are drow and that's it. Someone might refer to them as Dark Elves, but they are still drow we all know. CD doesn't recognise these due to the following:
* Novels aren't considered canon,
* These events are post 1372DR.

There can be some speculations made as to what these Dark Elves would be like, but since they're irrelevant to CD's timeline, it would be better to take them elsewhere :D
I have heard the term used in Arabel but didn't know if it had happened or not and from what you have mentioned it wont happen.

thanks for clarifying, gives me another piece of information to work with

I was curious when the Drow started to revert back to their Dark Elf state and what the big difference is between the two.

Part One
When I ask about certain subjects involving Moon Elves I keep getting feed back that seems more in line with Sun Elves why does it feel like the lore of the server is not based on each and every elf race here is a description of Moon Elves that I found that seems similar to what I play my Moon elf Characters.

Relations

Moon elves were uncommonly tolerant of non-elves, spending as much time within other races' lands as they did within their own. While sun elves might wrinkle their nose at other cultures as inferior, moon elves typically felt that the diversity of Faerûn's landscape was wondrously enchanting. To a moon elf, the insights that non-elves often had was a strength that others of their race too often ignored. Rather than shunning outside ideas, most moon elves embraced them and made them a part of their own culture, which often caused other elves to look down on the subrace.

The reason their openness was frowned upon by some elves (namely, the sun elves) was because they believed that their moon elf brethren were too open and kindhearted to the N-Tel-Quess, thus making it seem a foolish attempt. The sun elves strove to help the moon elves to try to return to the proper elven path with very stern lectures and strict fatherly advice by trying to make them look down on the N-Tel-Quess as inferior, but for a moon Elf, these actions were nothing but a tactical weakness and therefore were a silly way to alienate themselves from every other race they encountered. Working and getting along with the N-Tel-Quess was the true meaning of friendship for the Teu-Tel-Quessir.

However, while moon elves commonly demonstrated a willingness to accept other cultures' traditions and ideas, they generally had little tolerance for cruelty, making them natural enemies of most orcs and gnolls. Likewise, most moon elves shared their kin's open hostility towards drow.

Part Two
Moon Elf Lands and locations since I like the Waterdeep and Ardeep forest areas I base a lot of my characters from there. I know that the Elven population is mainly made up of Moon Elf and Wood Elf (From Evermeet to protect Elven Artifacts from being stolen Ardeep Forest) from various sources that are listed as 2.0 to 3.5, so why would elves from these areas be considered not Elven in nature/forlorn, there is referenced that House Floshin has an estate there. Since this is the case how can these locations be considered not Elven in nature?

This is the start of some questions that I hope to get clarification on so that when I do write up or try to start a background, I can give a better one.

I found this also as far as locations for Moon Elves

Homelands

Some nations that could properly be considered moon elven still existed in the 14th century DR—a sign that moon elves had, on the whole, fared relatively well compared to their brethren. Though the moon elves had not settled in vast numbers, this was less out of inability as lack of need, as the small bands that made up most moon elves had been fairly successful at their lifestyle for centuries. By and large, moon elves ignored the Retreat carried out by their sun elf kin, preferring to either live amongst other races or wander the wilderness. The major exception to this was the isolated city of Evereska, mainly populated by moon elves. Moon elves could be found most commonly in the Dalelands, northwest Faerûn, or the Western Heartlands. After the Spellplague of 1385 DR, many also took refuge in the cities of Baldur's Gate and Waterdeep.

General Discussion / Bladesinger Question
Dec 04, 2023, 06:43 AM
Good morning everyone.

I am hoping once my character app if approved he wanted to work towards becoming a Bladesinger who are the current bladesingers on the server and at what level does a Bladesinger teach a new one? I also wanted to chat with those to make a plan towards that to keep the rp real.
