Player Announcements / Taking my leave
Jan 23, 2024, 07:10 AM
I don't think it will come as a big surprise to most that know me / us that with Fox's departure I, too, will leave the server.

Almost six years ago I started playing on CD, which started with an old friend from Neverwinter Online tell me about this server as I wanted to get into a "real" DnD experience. Which CD has provided a lot of. But ultimately, not the gameplay but the roleplay and possibilities for a character were what truly kept me on this server. My second ECL character, a Darksong knight, got her future read by a certain fortune teller, and this event marked the beginning of a very personal connection, which now spans over five years. While I'll miss both the IC and OOC interaction with others, I also have to admit that without Fox, it would not be the same for me and my characters would lack something important.

I appreciate everyone who was there for me during some of my most difficult times, from being in therapy because I had a breakdown, to being locked into a hospital for more than half a year due to chemotherapy. The server and its inhabitants have helped me a lot to find myself, and form myself, as a person and individual. I wish everyone a great future, and amazing times ahead, and hope to stay in contact with some of you.

Glad to have been a part of the server for quite some time, and rest assured, it was an important part of my live I will think back on fondly.

Adding to what Morena said... not all quests should be visible for everyone, not even close. Drow plots, general evil quests, some personal stuff that by nature of characters involved need to be hidden away... there is enough reasons the transparency has to be halt at some point. Not to mention activity of people being publicized in general can be quite uncomfortable for some, and it would definitely invite constant comparison, counting who did what how much, and accusations of favoritism.

So, as a player who's here since three years with not a lot of breaks, I'll repeat what Fox already said: Right now, basically since about March, there's a bunch of long, ongoing plots. It's literally the timing of joining. And I think it's quite unfair to blame the DMs who already do consult lists as to who is in many quests and do their best to make it fair - but, as others have said, if you don't sign up, how are the DMs to know you want to participate? The roster size refers to how many will be on the roster in the end, not when signups are supposed to end.

Suggestions Archive / Uncanny Dodge

Isn't uncanny dodge supposed to run on instinct? How much sense would that make ICly for a high-concentration caster? Just curios.

Suggestions Archive / Return to Lycanthropy

I mean, I only read about lythari as elven lycans, and admins ruled that elves cannot be lycans. Figure it comes from a source I cannot find rn, but the rulebooks about lycanthropes I can find do not specifically mention they are included as well.

I mean, at the very least you'd have to exclude elves from humanoid since lycanthropy is known to kill them upon contracting and they cannot be born as such. Also, giants do not count as humanoids so their special mention is necessary as well :D

Shout out to  and  for the fun interactions and meaningful roleplay during Anyai's quest. Glad you all stuck with her for it!

And in general, thanks @ basically everyone I RP with. The server does help me a lot through my day to day troubles which 2020's seem intent to make as taxing as possible for me :D

I had an absolute blast in Jazzmyra's plot, especially in today's finale. Thank you !
I want to second all that, it was amazing and the ending was awesome! Really loved it and made me happy that I applied for it to happen <3

The first NWN2 build I made was a monkey grip greatsworder, heh. :D
Me too!  xD  It was such an exciting time.

Every now and then I'll try to revisit NWN just for the SP stuff and even with that, I just can't.  Game is so strange.
Pff. Boring. Dual-Wielding Scythes. :P

IIRC this was suggested before, and the basic consensus was that it'd take away from RP potential. You already have the "Welcome" quest chain (a lot more introduction than about a year ago)and most other things are easy hooks to do some simple RP in the square and such.

I would like to see the RP XP script re-written so that RPing in engaged conversations will give you more than exploration.

Just as a note, it's easier to get full RP XP for exploring for 2 hours than it is to be actively engaged in a conversation-based DM event for three hours.  That somehow feels like the script is not incentivizing correctly.

Edit: I have been observing this for a while now. It will take me 2.5 to 3.5 hours of talking to get the same full RP xp as walking around by myself for two hours.
That... doesn't sound fair at all? What about characters like Windwalkers and others that would be -focused- on exploration over sitting in a group? I do get the issue with that exploring being more rewarding or rather quicker rewarding, but that's inevitable with the activity checks, I guess?

Chiming in with a little bit the admins like to say, the goal on this server is the journey not the end level. CD is all about characters growing and becoming more full fledged over time, and as someone who since soon three years knows only this server, I... Disagree, with basically everything. I have about 15 characters, most of them somewhere in between 13-19. I always come up with altohism. Do I regret creating new characters? Nope, not at all.

As meadows said, and from what I heard from those who switched to CD from other servers, CD is easily among the most fair and fun places with a generous yet not too fast forwarding level system that encourages RP between all different sorts of people and levels. And with the current number of players in all different level ranges, it's hard for me to imagine finding people to do content with is difficult.

I have a character who might be interested, though under the guise of being primarily muscle. Going to PM more on it :D

Aaaaaand another update on my health situation. Today I got the last injection of my second chemo, and I figured I'd clarify a little bit more on it.

All in all, I'm getting two different chemo therapies. Each over several cycles. First one is specifically targeting my lymphnode tumor and I already took that really well. My back pain at this point is almost none existent, I haven't had to take any pain meds in the last two weeks which is a small blessing considering I wasn't able to sleep at all back home before I was hospitalized.

Second chemo therapy is specifically targeting the tumor that has formed in my head. It causes me to see double and used to cause headaches. With eyepatch and regulating how much I use both eyes carefully, I don't develop headaches anymore and my double vision has gone significantly down. This second chemo (which I had my first cycle finished today) is far more agressive and has a lot more components than the other one. Buuuut once again I'm lucky (and healthy enough generally) to take it very well, no side effects except from a general exhaustion which is attested to the body working with what is given to fight the tumor.

So far, it looks like I'll spend most of my time in chemotherapy actually at home. Only the brain related tumor -might- involve stationary treatment, but with how things are going, it could very well be I'll do it from home too, just visit once every two or three weeks to get the stuff pumped into me.

So far on my end. And with notebook, no matter what happens, I'll at least be able to attend most events and stuff that don't take place in the middle of my nights during hospital shifts :P

1) I barely have that happen at all. I legitimately cannot remember when it happened to me the last time. And I don't do that myself at all either.

2) I (as I've stated in the other thread) don't play daily. I personally need the incentive to even login some days that daily ticks give.

3) Some folks are committed to just one character. Making them wait *an entire week* to have a rewarding feeling sounds just as unfair, doesn't it?

4) Honestly, mute discussion anyway since Admins did already decide against it not too long ago.

Edit: A lot of folks level up mainly through RP ticks. Admins, DMs and sDMs control quest queues. As someone who literally dropped from a quest final, maybe -don't- put forth such accusations, Autokilla.
