Suggestions & Ideas / Re: Request: More books in the...

Through a admittedly limited search within different libraries, I can agree that there's a certain lack of in game world building through books. There's much to be gained through in character written works, be it survival guides or interpretations of faiths, the latter likely being a rather debated topic across the realms due to the abundance of gods. It provides depth and in part contribute to perhaps chronicle server history even through in character means which may be shared.

The lore found within deity books specifically come off as jarring, from a IC perspective. Provided such a book is read what would the character reasonably know and where is that line drawn?

With that being said, I agree with books being underutilized.

My thoughts on this are twofold. As a player, I fundamentally agree that it would be nice if the books were less definitive and written more from the perspective of a scribe.

As a DM, I think this is potentially a much larger project than anticipated and would need a system in place for volunteers to write new books or change existing books, as well as staff willing to take the time to oversee the entire project. Would it be possible? Yes. But it would take time to set up, write up, and go through before implementing or re-implementing.

This is not an official opinion by any means, just a personal one, but I would personally not mind more variety among the books we currently have on the server. In my opinion, they would be a great way of adding some depth to the server and the setting itself while giving players something to search for and collect from the loot tables or something that gives cause to explore the various libraries around the server.

Fully endorsed!

To put a finer point on it, having a wider variety of lore tomes supports the "make your own rp" element of a persistent world more than most anything else, especially given that the investment cost is overall pretty low and there tends to be a sizeable portion of the player base that shares a love for engaging with the tangible, fiction of the world.

You beat me to it, but piggy-backing off of your item request, I wanted to formally suggest that the server accepts player (and thusly character) sourced books.

Personally I'm not a fan of the current wiki copy pasted books that we have in game. And in place of that, I think it'd be great if players, especially those relevant to the religion, region, profession or interest could write them instead.

I'd suggest a reasonable character limit, allow for varied topics, and somewhere to post them for approval and integration. For example, I'd be happy to write some Calishite songs and text on Ibrandul with my current character and, I have a few Thayan  songs that I've written in the past that I'd be happy to bring here. Cheers!

Suggestions & Ideas / Request: More books in the mod...

Im sort of just porting a previous forum post here as I think it makes more sense in this space.

Hello, I'm a huge fan of in-game lore representation through the medium of NPCs, dynamic storytelling and most importantly... Books.
I think it's a great roleplay mechanic to be able to refer another character to a book available in X shop or X library or perhaps X person has a very rare and unique tome on a very obscure topic.
It allows players to learn through roleplay, rather than slapping up the wiki every time someone starts talking about something they don't know about, or allows them to explore in-game mechanics or information not readily available on wikis.

To this end, I would be happy to write dozens, upon dozens of books. Around 300 to 500 words each, varying in topic and content. My favorite subjects are; Tethyrian history, Netherese artifacts and magical theory.
I've written a few examples I can put forward for review if anyone would like to take a look, and I'm happy to cater them to your preference to better fit your setting.

So to clarify on account of my character, Gawain has around 20-30 points in Item Lore, Ancient Empires, Geography, History, Arcana, Religion and Planes knowledge.
I'm happy for them to write SOME of the books, but with the amount of books I'd be happy to write, I don't want their name to be attributed to 90% of books in the module. I feel that would be over the top in terms of giving equal light to other authors or just keeping a balance.

I would like these books to be added to the libraries, book stores or bookshelf loot tables to be specific. I am not asking for an individual book item to be created as I can do that myself as a character, but I would like them to be more distributed in a manner that would allow them to help have in-game access to lore that can be referenced as an RP tool, i.e. A conversation on education someone about Tethyrian wildlife might be supplanted by someone referencing a book they have on the matter.

I am aware that these books will be written from a level of 'What someone would realistically know', i.e. No 'Ikea flatpack instructions on a Mythallar' as I call it.

I'm happy for these books to be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by administration, and don't expect any compensation for the fact. I simply wish to help improve the value of the books in game.

My books will be referenced with their provided sources, compounding the information and will be structured as if an author wrote them, instead of simple 'paste jobs'.

Thank you for reading :)

Glad to hear that you had a good experience, these forums are not frequently checked as they are only really used for some information and applications. Make sure you join us on the discord so you can chat and reach out there. Your experience has been my experience as well.

Quote from: DarthNoxy on Dec 20, 2025, 10:44 AMHi there! Been a very long time since I was here last, about nine years actually. I played Astraea-Celes Sphaerideion for a short time before real life happened as it tends to do. Lost my old email accounts and so upon returning made new ones and this forum profile. Had a few interactions and a player or two that might remember me or not, either way just happy to be back!

We are glad to have you!

General Discussion / Thank you! - A Scared Newbie
Last post by joopii - Jan 14, 2026, 07:28 PM
I've been PW hopping for months and I've finally landed here. I wasn't grabbed at first, Cormyr is a fairly unknown setting to me, but as I was getting started and doing tutorial quests, I asked someone for directions and we had a super nice interaction. They showed me down into the sewers where the firebreathing rat was, and we ran into another group coming back from their adventure. We all talked for a little, then parted ways, all in character. After I was finished down in the sewers, the person who guided me down there originally chatted with me for a while before the server restarted. I've never felt like such a part of a world, everyone wants to have fun and adventure and roleplay and we're all the same brand of weirdo. I'm so excited to level and meet new people and characters. Thank you so much to everyone.
