On the "Return" Player Tool, and How It Fits into Roleplay

So there have been some questions about how to roleplay the use of the "Return" player tool.

First, let me make clear, this is not an in-character ability or spell, and its effect is not IC.

Instead, it lets you "skip ahead" past the long journey back to Arabel. Think of it as much the same as in a movie or TV show where the characters say "Let's head back to Arabel." The scene cuts, and the next scene shows the characters back in Arabel after having traveled, without having to watch them spend 8+ hours on horseback.

The reason DMs can veto its use in an event is because in the event, the DM is the Director, and he/she gets to choose when to say 'cut', because they may know something you don't (such as that there's an important scene that happens before you get back to Arabel, for instance).

Hopefully this clears up any confusion! :)

Secondarily, their main function is to allow players to not get stuck in locked and otherwise warded player homes.   It's mostly just there as a convenience tool and should not be treated as an IC thing.
