A Shadow Over Cormyr

Over the past few weeks there have been an increasing number of reports about strange occurrences and findings among the different monstrous threats that are ever present within or near Cormyr's borders.

Those fighting orcs, goblins, gnolls,, and other humanoid creatures have found small numbers of adamantine weapons in their possession, usually among their most skilled fighters.  These deep black weapons ranged from elegantly made to crudely fashioned.  However their effectiveness, particularly against stronger armor and magical wards, is undeniable.

Small crates of firebombs have been found in their caves and hideouts, and when analyzed, seem to be a much more potent variety than what is commonly available.

How did they obtain such enhanced weaponry?

Reports of kobolds being spotted within orc tribes, or goblins being spotted with hill giants to the west, speak of these races somehow working with each other.  To what end?

There are guttural, harsh whispers in foreign tongues of a "Shadow That Speaks", the one that has promised a new land, a new dawn, for these so called lesser races.  Crude drawings on cave walls depict a looming shadowy figure, towering over castles and forts and a great host behind it.

The Purple Dragons patrolling Cormyr's borders seem to be more on edge, perhaps due to these rumors and findings.  Soldiers deep in their cups speak of patrols being attacked more often, and that the monstrous races are becoming bolder in their raids.  What's more, the news of Lionar Greyson being charged with treason and escaping authorities have added more fuel to the paranoia that something large is brewing.

A shadow of tension and uncertainty is being cast over Cormyr, and the hard-earned peace the Kingdom has found since Vezzil's defeat is starting crack.
