Is anyone familiar with Open Broadcast Software?

...or any screen recording software that's simple?

I'm looking to record some gameplay to get a friend involved in NWN, but whenever I try to record (using Open Broadcast Software; which supposedly is the bee's knees), I just get a black screen.

Halp?
